Released in 1999, Santana’s “Maria Maria” reached #1 on the charts in 7 countries including spending 10 weeks at #1 on the Billboard Hot 100 in the US. 

With a melodic groove the song is an easy listen that could fit in on pop radio just as well now as it did 20 years ago. 

#ThrowbackThursday: John Mellencamp - “Hurts So Good”

A hit from 1982, John Mellencamp’s “Hurts So Good” was blocked from the number one spot on the Billboard 100 only by “Eye of the Tiger.” 

A karaoke and jukebox favorite almost 30 years later.

#ThrowbackThursday Prince - “Let’s Go Crazy”

“Let’s Go Crazy” was the second single from Prince’s “Purple Rain” album in 1984. 

While the song didn’t achieve as much commercial success as “When Doves Cry,” it became a concert staple for Prince and karaoke favorite for many.

As an artist whose music transcended generations, the death of Little Richard on May 9, 2020 made many think about his notorious hit “Tutti Frutti.”

Written and released in 1955, it is amazing to think this song could get regular play on radio stations today 65 years later.

Christina Aguilera’s “Dirrty” featuring Redman was the first track released from Aguilera’s “Stripped” album in 2002. 

While only the 5th most popular song from the album chart wise it is remembered as the song that blew the doors off Aguilera’s persona as a teen pop princess, showing the multiple sides to Aguilera’s personality.

#ThrowbackThursday: Vanessa Carlton - “A Thousand Miles”

18 years ago today Vanessa Carlton’s “Be not Nobody” album was released. “A Thousand Miles” was the first track released from the album in February 2002. It spent 41 weeks on the Billboard Top 100, reaching number 5 at one point.

A true pop culture jam featured in the movie “White Chicks” and various commercials, “A Thousand Miles” is this week’s #ThrowbackThursday.
